MUBI is a streaming service that focuses on indie movies and art-house classics from all over the world while featuring 30 hand-picked films at a time. Their goal as a streaming service is to, "online destination for film lovers across the globe to discover, watch and discuss the best of cinema."

In order to keep up with the demands of the users and improve the overall experience of MUBI, this case study features a rebranding on MUBI including an expansion on their features and capabilities that they offer as a streaming service.

Problem Discovery

In order to get a better understanding of what current problems MUBI as a streaming service may be facing, I started off with research on the streaming service market. I gained insight on general frustrations that users had when using streaming services, alongside collected important data that related to not only MUBI, but other competitor streaming services and their users needs and goals as well.

These findings were:

With a better understanding of MUBI and their current strategy, I narrowed down my goals to find what specifically may be setting MUBI as a streaming service back.

These goals were:

Defining the main demographic of film streaming services and MUBI in specific

02 - User Needs

Understand user's frustrations and needs when using streaming services

03 - Limitations

Identify the limitations MUBI has as a streaming service

04 - Retention

Focusing on features that could solve MUBI's retention issue and design a UX experience

I surveyed 48 people, mostly people who identified themselves as major “film” fans.Their responses helped me identify why some users find some streaming services lacking, what feature and functionalities, or content users were looking for in a film service.
